On June 27th, UM Aerospace Engineering Professor Joaquim R.R.A. Martins delivered the keynote speech for the AIAA/ISSMO (American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics/International Society for Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization) Multidisciplinary Analysis and Optimization Conference.
The presentation, entitled “Promise and Challenges of MDO for the Next Generation of Aircraft,” addresses the overlap between theory, implementation, and application of MDO (multidisciplinary design optimization) in industry and in academia.
At the University of Michigan, Professor Martins leads the Multidisciplinary Design Optimization (MDO) Laboratory. His research focuses on the development and application of MDO methodologies to aircraft design, particularly in the use of high-fidelity simulations.
