Welcome to the University of Michigan Department of Aerospace Engineering. With a legacy that spans generations, our Aerospace department holds the honor of being the first aeronautical degree-granting program in the nation starting in 1914. Since our start, we have graduated over 6,000 aeronautical and aerospace engineers who have gone on to positively impact the world. Together, we make up a group of dedicated faculty and staff members, working to encourage our students to become the leaders and best in the field. It is with immense joy that we embark on this learning journey together, nurturing aspirations and fostering a strong sense of camaraderie within our department.

As we continue to grow and push our students into their passions, we strive to continue being among the very best undergraduate and graduate aerospace engineering programs in the world. With our award winning professors and students, we are advancing the field of aerospace engineering. The graduates from our program have gone on to become outstanding engineers, astronauts, visionary entrepreneurs, influential policymakers, and accomplished corporate leaders.

We are committed to the success of our students, ready to guide them through their educational path, community-building events, student organizations, mentoring opportunities, and dedicated mental health and support services. This journey encompasses more than just coursework—it is about cultivating intellect, nurturing character, and fostering the ability to make meaningful contributions to the common good. You may want to join us in this endeavor as a student, faculty, staff, research partner, or by providing ideas and support to enrich our activities.

Please continue to explore our website to learn more about our mission, our strategic plan and thrusts, and our research and educational activities in general.
