Collins Aerospace VP, Juan deBedout Speaks to Aerospace Undergraduates

Dr. Juan de Bedout, Vice President of Advanced Technology at United Technologies Collins Aerospace, spoke to Aerospace Undergraduates about the design challenges of commercial aviation.

In his lecture to the Aerospace 285 class on January 31, Dr. Juan deBedout spoke on the many engineering challenges “beyond the airframes” of commercial aircraft and on the problems that the future aerospace engineers will face.

Dr. Juan deBedout, PhD and VP, Enterprise Engineering, Collins Aerospace, lectures Aerospace 285 students

Dr. deBedout graduated with a BS in Mechanical Engineering in 1994, followed by a MSME and Phd in 1996 and 2000, all at Purdue. From 2000 to 2012 Mr. deBedout served as the Technology Director for Global Research at General Electric, managing research and development for GE’s Energy, Oil, Aviation, Transportation, and Healthcare ventures. In 2012, he was promoted to Chief Technology Officer of GE Energy Connections, where he supervised GE’s automation and electrification businesses.

In 2018 Dr. deBedout started a new role as Vice President of Advanced Technology at United Technologies Collins Aerospace. Many of deBedout’s projects at Collins concern the technologies he discussed in his lecture, including the development of electric propulsion systems for the Airlander 10 Airship. Mr. Bedout and Collins aim to deliver the hybrid turbine system to the Airlander 10 within the next three years.

Once again, thank you to Mr. Juan de Bedout for speaking at our Aero 285 lecture on Friday!
