The AIAA Wyld Propulsion Award is presented for outstanding achievement in the development and application of rocket propulsion systems. This award is sponsored by the AIAA Electric Propulsion Technical Committee, the AIAA Hybrid Rockets Technical Committee, the AIAA Liquid Propulsion Technical Committee, the AIAA Nuclear and Future Flight Propulsion Technical Committee, and the AIAA Solid Propulsion Technical Committee.

Alec D. Gallimore, Dean of Engineering

Professor Gallimore’s primary research interests include electric propulsion, plasma diagnostics, space plasma simulation, electrode physics, nano-particle energetics and hypersonic aerodynamics/plasma interaction. He has a multitude of testing and design experience with a number of electric propulsion devices including Hall thrusters, ion thrusters, RF thrusters, microwave thrusters, arcjets, 100-kW-class steady MPD thrusters and multimegawatt pulsed coaxial plasma accelerators. He has written more than 300 archival journal articles and conference papers, and two book chapters.

Professor Gallimore is the founder of the Plasmadynamics and Electric Propulsion Laboratory (PEPL) here at Michigan. Learn more about their important research on their website.
