Congratulations to the 2020/21 Centennial Scholarship award recipients
The Department of Aerospace Engineering and the College of Engineering recognized 8 outstanding undergraduate students for this year’s Centennial Scholarship Award.
Congratulations to this year’s recipients of the Aerospace Engineering Centennial Scholarship Award! Starting in 2015, this scholarship recognizes outstanding undergraduate students majoring in Aerospace Engineering for their academic excellence, leadership qualities, contribution to the culture of the Aerospace department, and financial need. Awarded in part by the College of Engineering, the Centennial Scholarship grants each student with a monetary award toward their tuition for the fall and winter terms. We are proud to announce the following students as the recipients of this prestigious award:
Tyler Pangerl
Tyler is a Senior in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at The University of Michigan. He is the oldest of four siblings born to Christopher and Sheri Pangerl in Flint, Michigan. After completing his freshman year at The University of Michigan, he put his studies on hold to serve two years as a full-time missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Tucson, Arizona. Upon his return he resumed his studies and campus involvement. Tyler is currently the Team Captain of MACH, U-M’s Design, Build, Fly Team and serves as the President of the Latter-day Saint Student Association. He anticipates graduating in May, 2021 and immediately entering the workforce in the aerospace industry.
Noah Kinnucan
Noah is from Muskegon, Michigan. He graduated from Mona Shores High School’s Class of 2019. It has been a dream of his to work in the aerospace industry since he was a child, and he maintains the same enthusiasm now about being a part of the Aerospace Engineering program at the University of Michigan. He is a firm believer in constantly challenging himself and putting his knowledge and skills to the test in everything he does as well as seeking out opportunities to learn from others and improve. While he is not exactly sure what he wants to do with his degree, he is certain that his experiences over the next couple of years will help him find the best way to make an impact in the lives of others.
Geoffrey McVey
Geoffrey is currently in the final semester of completing his bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering at Michigan.He is from Duncan, South Carolina and began his collegiate studies in the fall of 2017. His dream job is to complete research and design work for a major aircraft or space company and further the possibilities of electric flight and space exploration. On campus, he is involved with the MiTEE CubeSat Research Team, the M-Fly Aero Design Team, and Tau Beta Pi.His hobbies include hiking and competitive swimming, which he has continued in college as a member of Michigan Club Swimming. He is honored to receive the Aerospace Engineering Centennial Scholarship and greatly appreciates the investment in his future.
Anna Garcia
Anna Garcia is pursuing her Bachelor’s in Aerospace Engineering. She expects to graduate in Winter 2021.
Ethan Foreman
Ethan is pursuing his Bachelor’s in Aerospace Engineering with a minor in Climate & Atmosphere Engineering . He expects to graduate in Winter 2021.
Jared Ness
Jared is a junior in the Department of Aerospace Engineering. He’s from Gladstone, Michigan in the Upper Peninsula. His passion for Aerospace has been with him since he was young, and the University of Michigan Aerospace Department has been the perfect fit for him. His biggest interests are in Commercial Aviation and his goal is to finish his bachelor’s degree and work within the Commercial Aviation industry or attend graduate school. In his free time at school He enjoys watching Michigan sports, spending time outdoors, and playing golf.
Lewyn Beernink
Lewyn is from Clarkston, Michigan. He is currently a sophomore pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering. After graduation, he plans to continue on through to a Master’s degree. Lewn wants to work in the field of rocket science, perhaps more specifically in propulsion or fluid dynamics. Besides his studies, he is an avid runner as well as a member of the Michigan Marching Band!
Madeline Purvis
Madeline, or Maddie, is a Sophomore in the Department of Aerospace Engineering with an interest in space and satellite systems. She is a member of Women in Aeronautics and Astronautics, MiTEE research team, and on the leadership team of the UM Detroit Alumni Club Scholars Society. In her free time, she enjoys doing crafts, playing tennis, and is always up to play a board game! Maddie has enjoyed her time in the department so far, and is very thankful to receive the Centennial Award.
