Congratulations to U-M Aerospace Professor Ella Atkins for her appointment as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Aerospace Information Systems!
Congratulations to UM Aerospace Professor Ella Atkins for her appointment as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Aerospace Information Systems (JAIS)!
JAIS is an American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics publication “devoted to the dissemination of original archival research papers describing new theoretical developments, novel applications, and case studies regarding advances in aerospace computing, information, and networks and communication systems that address aerospace-specific issues.”
As a prolific researcher of autonomous flight systems, Professor Atkins is continually searching for “more meaningful ways to integrate computer science into aerospace.” Professor Atkins reflects on why this appointment is such a great fit for her, “computer science is the foundation of information systems, so [JAIS is] something that makes sense personally to support.”
Professor Atkins is a co-author of the second-most read online JAIS article, “Evaluating Risk to People and Property for Aircraft Emergency Landing Planning.” Earlier this year, Professor Atkins received the university-wide inaugural President’s Award for National and State Leadership.
American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics President James Maser will officially appoint Professor Atkins for an initial three-year term, commencing January 15th, 2018 and effective through December 31st, 2020.
