International students make up about 40% of the Aerospace Engineering graduate program. There are particular requirements for international students during both the application and offer acceptance process. For a complete picture please also see AERO’s admissions guidelines and application process information.
For non-US institution transcripts, you may use the CertiFile transcript submission service to verify, evaluate and deliver your transcript electronically to Rackham. See the “CertiFile (Certified Credentials Attachment Service)” section on page 5 of the online application.
In the online application enter your name exactly as it appears on your passport. If your name appears differently in any application material (transcript, test report) note this name in the “Other Names” section to properly match your application materials with your application.
International students must show English language proficiency through English language test scores or completion of a degree at an english-only institution.
Scores are valid for two years.
Applicants who have earned or will earn a bachelor’s or master’s degree from an institution where the language of instruction is English exclusively, are exempt from submitting English test scores. An official transcript from an institution in the United States is sufficient proof (provided that all of your undergraduate education was at US institutions).
Rackham Admissions is the U-M office that will prepare immigration documents for international students. Please look for emails from Rackham Graduate school and note deadlines.
The Aerospace Engineering Department sends an email notifying a applicant of their recommendation for admission. The next step is to accept the admission offer with AERO by notifying the Graduate Student Admissions Coordinator, Kathy Miller, of your decision to accept or decline.
Rackham reviews AERO’s recommendations for admission and ensures that minimum requirements are met, including the submission of an official transcript. After Rackham has approved admission, the applicant will receive an official email from Rackham inviting them to respond to the respond to the offer in Wolverine Access. This may occur several days after receiving an email offer from AERO.
The applicant communicates about the admissions offer to both Rackham (via Wolverine Access) and Aerospace Engineering Department (email Graduate Student Admissions Coordinator).
After Rackham approves an international applicant’s admission, the student will receive an email from Rackham requesting that they upload financial documents in Wolverine Access. Do not submit financial information until requested to do so by Rackham. The financial documents may be upload in several files.
Rackham will prepare immigration documents (I-20 or DS-2019) using the U.S. Government SEVIS system. You will be able to review your immigration information and track the progress of your immigration document on the “View I-20 or DS-2019 Status” link in Wolverine Access.
