Biography

Dr. Avin Vijay obtained his Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Michigan in 2021. Prior to this, he worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Michigan. Prior to his doctoral studies, Dr. Vijay worked as a Future Mobility researcher at Toyota Research Institute North America. He obtained his dual Master’s in Aerospace Structures and Civil Engineering Structures from the University of Michigan in 2016. Dr. Vijay’s research interests include In-space Manufacturing (ISM), Design Optimization and Machine learning applications in Mechanics and Manufacturing, Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM), Mechanics of Carbon Fiber Laminates, and 3D printing. Dr. Vijay was the recipient of 2019 ASME/Boeing best paper award at the 2020 AIAA SciTech forum. He was also awarded the UM Aerospace Outreach champion award in 2021 for his leadership in the “Cool Things @ UM-Aero” program at Metro Detroit Highschools.
